Golden Gate Bridge

Walk Across San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge

Nothing says San Francisco quite like the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, one of the world's longest suspension bridges. Completed in 1937, the 4,200-foot-long, bright orange Golden Gate Bridge spans the San Francisco Bay to Marin County. Discover postcard views of the bridge from Crissy Field and Fort Baker. The Golden Gate Bridge at night is spectacular.
Walk or ride your bike across the bridge and admire the amazing views of the Bay, Alcatraz Island, and Downtown San Francisco. Learn about the engineering and science that went into the bridge's construction through interactive exhibits in the plaza outside the Welcome Center.

Yes, there are a few. Only bicyclists and pedestrians are permitted to be on the sidewalks of the Golden Gate Bridge. No one is allowed to transport themselves on roller blades, roller skates, or a skateboard. If you have an electric bike or scooter, you can either push it or ride it on the sidewalks, but the power must be off. And the only types of animals that are permitted are service dogs, guide dogs, or signal dogs.
  • What will I see in the Golden Gate Bridge Visitor Plaza?
For starters, there's the Welcome Center. You'll receive answers to any questions you might have along with an informative overview. There are also several educational exhibits and commemorative merchandise. What's more, you'll be able to satisfy your hunger at the Round House Café, which serves such American fare as hot dogs and clam chowder, and the Bridge Café where you can enjoy a variety of drinks and snacks.
