The Mexican Museum

Fort Mason Center

2 Marina Boulevard, Building D, San Francisco

Hours: Thursday–Sunday, Noon–4 pm. Closed on national holidays.

Admission: FREE. Donations suggested.

In association with the Smithsonian Institute, the focus of The Mexican Museum is Latino art throughout the Americas, but particularly from Mexico. The Museum's collection is comprised of more than 16,000 pieces and includes Pre-Hispanic, Colonial, Popular, Modern and Contemporary artworks. Group tours can be arranged between Monday and Friday, 9 am-5 pm. There is a suggested donation of $2/person for groups of 10 or more, and a maximum of 25 guests.

The location of the Museum in Fort Mason Center is enriched by its picturesque surroundings on the San Francisco Bay with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Soon, however, the Museum will move to a permanent home in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. While you can, make a day of exploring the Museum in its current location. You can stroll along the Marina Green and into the Presidio to the north (just look for that iconic orange bridge), or head west towards tony Chestnut Street with its charming shops and restaurants. There is a parking lot at Fort Mason as well as street parking. Or take the Muni. Catch the number 30 Stockton bus near the Hotel Nikko San Francisco, or if you have time, take an exciting ride on the O'Farrell & Powell cable car. Either way, you'll need to walk a bit—just under a mile—to the Museum.
