The largest, longest-running LGBT film expo in the world is also one of the most popular art events in the Bay Area. Frameline39: There's No Place Like Here… marks The 39th San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival, a tradition dating back to 1977. Today, attendance reaches between 60,000-80,000 movie-lovers, eager to see the most popular, topical films of the coming year. Tickets for individual screenings go on sale to the general public on May 29th, followed by a variety of passes on May 31st. One of the greatest things about Frameline is that the audience decides what films win awards like Best Feature, Best Documentary, and Best Short – so be sure to vote for your favorites! The Opening Night feature is a controversial one, starring James Franco as a gay activist who denounces his homosexuality to become a pastor. Based on a true story, the film also stars Emma Roberts and Zachary Quinto, and is written and directed by Justin Kelly.

Tackling the topic of homosexuality in professional sports, the festival's Centerpiece Documentary uses interviews with legendary athletes to paint an uplifting picture of hope and progress.
Celebrate SF Pride
Cinema fans are invited to attend the 45th Annual San Francisco Pride Celebration as well, as every year the festival conveniently ends the same day as one of the largest Pride Parades in the world.
