Fleet Week San Francisco 2015 - Shining a Light on U.S. Armed Forces

Fleet Week 2015

San Francisco

Oct. 5 – 12

A tradition stretching back over 30 years, Fleet Week celebrates the strength and might as well as the humanitarian aid and disaster-related assistance offered by the United States Armed Forces. As a port city, San Francisco is an ideal showcase for battleships and aerial demonstrations over the Bay. There's nothing quite like seeing the Navy's Blue Angels take to the sky in formation as they roar through the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge! Even watching them practice a few days ahead of their scheduled weekend airshow is spectacular, and the roar of their engines is hard to ignore. Other awesome performances include the Navy Leap Frogs parachute team, the Red Star Pilots formation team and a U.S. Coast Guard rescue demo.

Most of the airshows can be seen from the grassy area of Marina Green or along the beach of Crissy Field. Tickets for Premium Box Seats and the Flight Deck Club cost between $49.50 and $225. Fleet Week is a family-friendly event with many displays taking place in the Humanitarian Village. The parade of Ships takes place, Saturday, Oct. 10, 11 am, on San Francisco's northern waterfront. Free tours of ships from the U.S. and Canada fleet are available from Piers 27 and 30-32. They include coastal defense vessels, frigates and destroyers. Children under the age of 8 are unfortunately not allowed on these tours. On Pier 80, the Off the Grid Fleet Fest will take place, with scrumptious food trucks and 4 ships docked including the USS Stockdale.
